Caluang Family: They are descendants of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam as they are descendants of the 7 Sharifs-Sayyids that brought Islam to the Philippines(Shariful Hashim,Bal Faqih Alawi and etc)
Jibin Arola was the survivor of the Jabidah Massacre, with his survival Ansarul Islam came into existence.
The Jabidah Massacre led to the founding of Ansarul Islam by Domocao Alonto, Salipada Pendatun and Kalingalan “Apuh Inggal” Caluang.
The Chief Minister of Sabah by then was Tun Mustapha, he was like a brother and had good relations with Kalingalan “Apuh Inggal” Caluang. Through Tun Mustapha’s help, the first fighters of MNLF(Like Al Hussein Caluang) were trained in Sabah after staying in Luuk, Sulu(which is now Kalingalan Caluang).
Nur Misuari became a part of the Ansarul Islam because of his good reputation as a UP professor.
After the training of these first MNLF fighters, Yahya Caluang(Son of Kalingalan “Apuh Inggal” Caluang) was asked by Kalingalan “Apuh Inggal” Caluang to fetch the MNLF fighters in Sabah. When Yahya Caluang arrived,Nur Misuari took over and declared himself Leader of the MNLF.
Nur Misuari eventually asked forgiveness to Kalingalan “Apuh Inggal” Caluang and Apuh Inggal forgave him.
By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order No9419, 4 February 1944(SectionII, Bulletin3, WD,1944),a Bronze Star Medal is awarded for meritorious achievement in the Sulu Archipelago,Philippine Islands, by the Commanding General,41st Infantry Division, to each of the following officers and enlisted men who are members of the guerrilla forces:

Inspite of the handicap due to the inferior arms you have, and inspite of unfavorable terrain, you were able to show to the enemy that the engagement favored your side.”
2.Your judgement, knowledge,decision in maneuvering your troops, taking advantage of the terrain in your side was splendid. The courage shown by your, your officers and EH during the hell of fire of the enemy was admirable. Your proficiency in upholding the morale of the troop, the undaunted spirit and the courage to keep on the fight despite of hardship is beyond reproach.”
3.In view of the above, you, your officers and enlisted men are hereby commended.

•On 22 March 1945, CaptKalingalan Caluang, upon receiveing a report from Cpl Lepai that the Geyutais escaped from Solari Island, dispatched two patrols to intercept and destroy them. One patrol was under Lieut M. MOLIJON and the other, under Lieut A.BAHJIN. The latter was instructed to intercept them at Tandu Bunga near Parang village.
Some of the escaping GeyUtais were intercepted and captured by Salip MUJAALA and turned them over to “I” Co for custody. Lieut MOLIJON did not make contact with the Geyutais but he was able to recover one carbine rifle from the scene of encounter the previous day.
•In August 1943, Capt Kalingalan CALUANG, then a lieutenant, the late lieutenant Moro RUGASAAN,Sgt IMAM MARJUKIM, then a private; private Gurabi Hanud and Dr.ElbertI.N.KWOK,a Chinese patriot from Jesselton, Borneo arrived at Batobato in a Kumpit from Borneo bringing aid in the form of cashloans and donations amounting to ten thousand($10,000.00) British North Borneo dollars, some clothing,quinine and stationary.
“Among those in the Sulu Area Command during WWII were LTC Alejandro Suarez, MAJ Luis Frayna, CPT Kalingalan Caluang, 1LT Ismael Kiram, 1LT Abdulhamid Lukman, 2LT Adjidin Bahjin, 3LT Romulo Espaldon, and his brother, 3LT Ernesto Espaldon.
The Admiral volunteered as a guerrilla of the Bolo Battalion Unit at the tender age of 16, fighting the invading Japanese. At the time, the monthly pay of a Lieutenant Colonel was less than P600, while that of a 3rd Lieutenant was less than P200.
This book by CPT M.A. Velasquez from the library of the Admiral contains the most detailed history and roster of all the officers and enlisted men who served in the Sulu Area Command during World War II.”
